Week 10: Mashups

This is another good technology for libraries to use. This could be used to create posters or images to place around the library for a function or activity that is being held. On the other side to put on a blog or wiki to make the site more appealing for the people using it.

Week 9: Podcasting

this is a fantastic technology that libraries can use. this would be really good for promoting what the library has coming up such as the events for the christmas holidays so that all parents and children don't have to come into the libray to see what is coming up soon or this could be used for storytime recordings for those children that can't make it to these times for various commitments so they can listen when they get home from preschool or when going to bed.

Week 8: Answer boards and social searching

Answer boards are a fantastic idea for a library especially for students and general inquiry questions from the public. this would help a lot of people who have left their assignment to the last minute and need some help urgently such as a book review or help with a understanding a question as a librarian will be on the end to help them as soon as possible.
This would also be good for people who want to rate the services provided by the library as they can tell the libray worker and this can be assessed or put up for a poll for people to comment on.

Librarything

LibraryThing is a great source for library workers as it is quick and easy to find what an author has written such as j.d. robb. It is an up to date and current website that makes it easy to search and find an answer instead of searching through lots of useless of websites to find an answer to a straightforward question such as what is the name of the most recent book published by so and so?

week 7: tagging, folksonomies, del.icio.us and librarything

Del.icio.us is a good tool for libraries as this could set up for research assistance. It can either be set up as an easy reference spot for school students to use for school assignments as a starting point or as a public use account where other professionals can get ideas for their work such s teachers who could use it for their class or lecture.

This is youtube video that I like.

week 6: videos online

The discoveries that I have found about youtube and gooogle video have been how big and wide these internet video storage websites are. They are very addictive and a person can spend many hours searching for things that they want to see and experience. Once you know what you are doing they are quite easy to use and see many other that aren't ordinarily possible without the internet. The possibilities that I think we could use youtube or google video would be to create a video to stick on the internet about the library promoting our services and what we provide such as databases.

week 5: wikis

I have completed the wiki component of my training. The thing I found most interesting about wikis was the flexibility and ease of use that wikis can offer compared to blogs. wikis can be changed at any time without too much difficulty and can be accessed by a big range of people whereas with a blog once you publish something it isn't as easy to change and only one person can pretty much access it.
Wikis can be used by a library for community activities such as Local History groups or Family History researchers who want to post historical documents on the internet so that people can see them and make commments or identify what it is.
